Art critics have described my work as “visual poetry.” Perhaps that is because in my lifetime I’ve written and published a fair amount of poetry along with publication of many of the images depicted on this site in national magazines and journals.

I hope you enjoy viewing my work no matter what words you choose to describe it.

Classic monochrome (black and white) images that show the full range of tones from purest white to black have always been my preference. Infrared takes it to another dimension. When I see a scene or subject to shoot, I visualize how it will look in my preferred style and then work toward making that happen. Along the way, about 20 years ago, I fell in love with the old-world art of hand-coloring, beginning with Marshall’s Oils, of course, and my inner artist has been happy ever since. I call myself “a black and white photographer who loves color.” But like my rare choices to do ‘simply color,’ I choose to hand-paint only a select number of images. Each one is unique, and even when I’ve re-painted the same image a second or third time, I rarely paint in exactly the same way or with the same colors as the first time. Partly artistic license or another creative direction?

Many of these pieces are readily available to be viewed in person either at the Beaufort Art Association Gallery in downtown Beaufort, SC, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital Lowcountry Medical Building, and on occasion in the Freedman Arts District's King Street Art Gallery.
